Cultural Voice North Carolina would like to congratulate intern Kelsey Carlisle on his successful senior recital this past week at UNCSA. Carlisle is a Piano Performance major at UNC School of the Arts who studies under Dmitri Vorobiev.
Carlisle's interesting program included the following works:
Nicolai Kapustin - Toccatina, Op. 36
J.S. Bach - French Suite No. 5 in G
Florence Price - "Fantasie Négre"
Johannes Brahms - Four Pieces for Piano, Op. 119
William Grant Still - Three Visions
William Albright -"The Nightmare Fantasy Rag"
Anyone can listen to Carlisle's fine recital by going the UNCSA YouTube channel link here.
Having been a part of the CVNC internship program since September, Carlisle stood out immediately for his great contributions to our coverage of the arts in the Triad this past year. Carlisle's 15 outstanding articles can be read on his writer's page here. Carlisle has shown that he can cover a wide range of music genres and has been exceptional with the key turnaround timelines set by CVNC for reviews.
When asked to reflect on his time with CVNC, Carlisle stated "I have appreciated the opportunities it has provided to be able to travel around the state and attend performances I otherwise would not have been able to. It has also developed my 'voice' and my ability to think critically about the performances I hear. My favorite performance was the very first one I wrote about, Louise Toppin at UNCSA. It allowed my introduction to writing for CVNC to be more meaningful, as Toppin was performing works from the African Disapora, which is something I am also passionate about myself."
Carlisle hails from Mount Airy, North Carolina. His current interests after graduating are working with community arts organizations as he works on building his musical career.
Bravo, Kelsey! CVNC is honored to have you share both your musical talents and discerning observations with us.
