South Pacific (Broadway Series South, Dec. 31-Jan. 1 at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, 1 E. South St., Raleigh, NC) is a special New Year's Eve and New Year's Day treat for patrons of Broadway Series South. Based on Tales of the South Pacific by James A. Mitchener, South Pacific was the fourth collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein III. This brilliant message musical became only the second musical ever to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The inaugural production of South Pacific also won nine Tony Awards®, including the awards for Best Musical, Book, and Score. The show added "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair," "There's Nothing Like a Dame," "Bali Ha'i," and "Some Enchanted Evening" to the show-tune repertoire.
