the world premiere performance of African-American composer Leslie Adams’ complete Piano Etudes, which blend a neo-romantic classical style with influences from popular and jazz traditions. The second installment of this two-part event features UNC pianist Thomas Otten (piano).

The UNC Etude Festival (October 26–November 2, 2014) will explore the etude as a musical genre, from its origins in the technical and musical study pieces of the nineteenth century through its contemporary use as a vehicle for compositional exploration.
