North Raleigh Arts & Creative Theatre (NRACT) is proud to present the North Carolina premier of Jason Odell Williams’ Church & State. Church & State, set on the campus of NC State, tackles the issues politics, religion, and guns The story, as described on Dramatists' website, occurs three "days before Senator Whitmore’s bid for reelection, in the wake of a school shooting in his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina, a Republican U.S. senator makes an off-the-cuff comment to a blogger that gets leaked on “the Twitter,” calling into question the senator’s stance on guns and God. As his devoutly Christian wife and liberal Jewish campaign manager try to contain the damage, this look at how religion influences politics and how politics has become a religion is simultaneously funny, heartbreaking, and uplifting."
The show features Brian Yandle as Senator Charles “Charlie” Whitmore (R - NC) and Melanie Simmons as Charlie’s wife, Sara Whitmore. Alex Klein, campaign manager, is played by Liz Webb, and Christian O’Neal portrays Tom/Marshall/Reporter/Security Guard
Following the May 5, 2019 matinee performance NRACT invites the audience to join them for a talk back - moderated by documentary filmmaker, Rob Phillips- with the cast, playwright, local high school students, and North Carolinians Against Gun Violence.
