Program

In 2015, as police brutality swept the country, Sonny Kelly, a young African-American father, found himself struggling to explain the state of the nation to his young son. Out of that frustration grew The Talk, a project that weaves together Kelly’s scholarly work as a Ph.D. student in UNC Chapel Hill’s Department of Communication and his moving family history. Kelly and director, Joseph Megel, have been working together on the development of this piece since 2016.

Notes

Every performance will conclude with a talkback with Sonny Kelly and panels of experts including scholars, representatives of local law enforcement, educators, and civic leaders.

Tickets for preview night are $5 on Thursday, Jan. 24. Tickets $5 - $20. Thursday performances are $15. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, tickets are $20.00, with $2.00 discounts available for Active Duty Military, Veterans, and Seniors. Tickets are $10 for all patrons under 35 to all shows.
