The musicians of L’Académie du Roi Soleil are delighted to present two rousing cantatas. In Jacquet de la Guerre’s Semelé, Jupiter’s mistress desires nothing more than to be made a goddess, but the granting of that wish comes at a flaming price. Clérambault’s Medée recounts Jason’s spurned and jealous lover, who, upon learning of his unfaithfulness, calls forth demons from the netherworld to punish him. Soprano Margaret Carpenter Haigh will relate the powerful accounts of two women. Presented alongside these  cantatas are  works for solo violin and continuo by Jean-Féry Rebel, played by Cynthia Black (violin), Gail Ann Schroeder (viola da gamba), and Nicolas Haigh (harpsichord).

Free and open to the public.
