We invite you to explore the colors and textures of the orchestra in Luster by acclaimed composer and UNCSA faculty member Jared Miller and to feel the deeply emotive strains of Rachmaninoff’s renowned Piano Concerto No. 2. Pianist Michelle Cann has been heralded as a “compelling, sparkling virtuoso” (Boston Intelligencer), and her interpretation of this iconic and powerful composition will draw you in with its haunting opening theme and keep you on the edge of your seat as it soars to its climax.
Following intermission, the orchestra performs Shostakovich’s monumental Fifth Symphony, an indomitable piece composed amid Stalinist terror.
Believing that music has the power to inspire, the Winston-Salem Symphony will fulfill its mission: To Bring Music to Life by enriching the community with live music. The Symphony brings performances, educational programs, and community engagement initiatives to where people live and desires for audiences to experience music in a way that is relevant and meaningful to their own lives. Through music, the Winston-Salem Symphony aspires to create shared experiences and connections that improve the quality of life in Winston-Salem and throughout the region.
